Competitive Dance Photography
Andrew Bowen Studios
It takes years of hard work and focus to excel in competitive dance. The same holds for dance photography. To get the photographs you deserve, you and your photographer must want it and know how to get it.
You know that feeling when you are working on a new sequence, and you get it? That’s the feeling you get when you work to get your pose, finesse your lines just right, the light hits you just right, and your expression shines.
I invite you to experience working with a photographer fully focused on working with dancers. I’ll be your photographer, coach, cheerleader, and collaborator. Let’s create the photographs you’ve always wanted.
WHAT MAKES ANDREW BOWEN STUDIOS DIFFERENT?
TAKING THE TIME TO GET IT RIGHT
Now and then, the universe’s karma shines upon us, and we get exactly what we want in one shot. More commonly, we need to adjust the lights, tweak your orientation relative to the camera, help you move through the pose so that your lines are optimal and synchronized, and get your muscle memory loaded so you can dance it and get the expressiveness that tells your story.
We work on a long-format schedule where sessions range from 90 minutes to a full day. Having time allows for creativity and helps reduce stress. It takes time to get all the pieces together in the same instant.
YOU COME FIRST
The time you spend here is all about you, and what you want to create. You are the primary artist. You are creating the form, and it should be what you want to create.
I appreciate that creating photos can be intimidating, especially when we display an image on the monitor to see what we like or don’t like. I’ll always have your back, and help you improve the parts that bother you.
You always get the final say on what images are kept and what ones we toss. Only images that you select are ever seen by anyone.
BE BOLD
I use the phrase “creative dance retreat” to describe your time here. You have a fantastic opportunity to create images of your dreams.
The images we create here are real successes. There is no photoshop fakery. When your friends love your image, you know that you actually created that, and are really that talented!
