2023 Pas de Deux Photo Competition
Pas de Deux is an organization focused on dance photography. It was founded by Ron McKinney and Beth McKinney (from Chicago) and has grown considerably over the past four years. Each year, there is a juried photo competition; the jurists comprise dancers and dance photographers. In this year’s Pas de Deux Photo Competition, we did exceptionally well. The results of our collaborations brought home second place overall. In addition, our images earned first, second, and fourth in studio photography, along with several other top-10 and top-20 placements in studio, teen, and pre-teen dance photography.
The jury this year was made up of Anne O’Donnell, Marissa Stark, Steven Vandervelden, Tanya Daniel, and Lisa Mallis. In addition to the three categories I entered, there was judging in performance, on-location, fine art, and photo series.
The Results
Submitting to the 2023 Pas de Deux Photo Competition is an excellent tool for honing my craft and getting images of dancers who come to the studio seen by others in the dance world. It is a unique jury where photographers knowledgeable in dance and professional dancers evaluate your images for photographic excellence and artistic and technical dance aspects.
To see the final ranked lists (finalist images were approximately 50% of the submitted images), you can go HERE and navigate from the top menu bar. Or…
And no, your eyes do not deceive you. The first-place studio image, “Taking the High Road,” was also selected for the 2023 NC Artist Exhibition and later sold at the show.
Fine Art Photography
Andrew Bowen Studios’ goal is to help artists thrive. When a Fine Art Photo sells, 20% of the net proceeds go to the dancer to support their career.
