Visiting Greensboro
Where is Greensboro?
Greensboro, the Gate City, is the third-largest city in North Carolina, located near the confluence of Interstates 77, 40, and 85. It has easy access to beautiful Carolina beaches and the peace of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I came to Greensboro in 2010 and fell in love with the area’s creative energy. Greensboro is part of what is known as the Triad area, along with Winston-Salem and High Point. We are also about an hour from Raleigh, Durham, and Cary; and about 90 minutes from Charlotte. It is a beautiful part of the country. If you are visiting Greensboro for your creative dance retreat, read on.
Where should we stay when visiting Greensboro?
Green Gate Guesthouse
Less than one mile from the studio! Dassi has been in business for several years now, serving Kosher vegetarian food, and is a master at working with many dietary restrictions. She’s a great cook and host. Mention Andrew Bowen Studios when you talk to her; there may be discounts available.
Hotel Denim
I had a client stay here, and she loved it! Less than a 5-minute drive from my studio and near plenty of eateries, it makes a great option. Make sure to check out the “Specials” tab on the website for savings when you book.
From their website: The Hotel Denim is Greensboro’s newest hip and stylish boutique hotel. Conveniently located in the heart of Midtown Greensboro at 1517 Westover Terrace, Hotel Denim offers a unique lifestyle experience while visiting the Piedmont-Triad region. With a hip and stylish vibe, you will find that Hotel Denim offers a unique experience unmatched in Greensboro.
Julian Price House
Also fairly close, the Julian Price House is an exquisite Bed and Breakfast and supporter of Dance Project. We have not personally stayed there, but it is gorgeous!

The Proximity
We stayed here when we first came to Greensboro. A delightful hotel experience, though certainly a bit pricey. The Printworks Bistro at the Proximity is one of our favorite restaurants. The roasted garlic served with their bread is a great start, and the beignets are an excellent finish.

Grandover Resort & Spa
We went to a wedding here, and it was grand. This hotel is furthest from my studio, but if golf and spa amenities are on your must-have list, this is your place.
From the website: Enriching the life journey of our guests and team members as they travel along our way. GRAND hospitality is what we do. Grandover Resort & Spa offers 36 holes of championship golf, a luxurious day spa, tennis, overnight accommodations, three bars, two restaurants, an art gallery, live entertainment, an indoor/outdoor pool, a conference center, and event venues. The Big Chain-Hotels:
The main hotel chains are clustered around the I-40/Wendover Avenue exit. The immediate area doesn’t have anything to do, but it may provide additional options for your stay. Check out this map: HERE (about 5-10 minutes from the studio) or closer to the Airport HERE (10-15 minutes from the studio).
What else is there to do when visiting Greensboro?
There are a lot of places to see and go in and around Greensboro. The science center, along with the attached aquarium and zoo, is a fantastic destination. The Children’s Museum downtown is a must if you have smaller children. Downtown has a fun and eclectic mix of shops and eateries for some just walking around time. Check out the sites and articles below for a complete list of things to do in Greensboro and the surrounding areas.
Where Should We Eat While in Greensboro?
There are a lot of great local eateries here in Greensboro. Some of our favorites include (in alphabetic order):
- B. Christophers: Prime steak house if you want to splurge. Make sure you try the Brulee Cream Corn.
- Carolina’s Diner: Yummy traditional diner food and breakfast all day.
- Crafted: The Art of the Taco: This place is fantastic. Re-imagined tacos.
- Fishbones: Mix of seafood entrees, Tex-Mex, and sandwiches.
- Greenfields Deli: Our favorite bagel place. Also great for some sandwiches.
- Lindley Park Filling Station: My favorite burgers and salads.
- Lucky 32: They have a seasonal menu and feature local produce, meats, and cheese. Fabulous food with a southern flair.
- Natty Greene’s: Fabulous food and microbrewery downtown.
- Printworks Bistro: A fabulous meal with a bit of a French flair.
- Sticks and Stones Clay Oven: Wood-fired pizza and salads at their best!
- Taqueria el Azteca: Fantastic Mexican food. I love their mole sauce!
