What is the PPNC Print Competition?

The Professional Photographers of North Carolina (PPNC) hosts an annual Print Competition that brings together a broad range of artists—both seasoned professionals and emerging talent. Open to members and non-members alike, the competition provides a great platform to assess how your work compares to the 12 Elements of a Merit Image. Judges award trophies and chevrons to high-scoring member entries (80+), while top non-member images also receive special recognition.

For photographers preparing to enter larger competitions like PPA’s IPC, ASP’s IOD, or international shows, this is an ideal proving ground. Critique options provide personalized feedback, and PPNC’s members-only Readiness Program helps participants fine-tune their entries. It’s a supportive space for photographers who want to grow, push creative boundaries, and celebrate powerful, storytelling images.

Why It Matters

Participating in PPNC’s Print Competition provides photographers with expert feedback and measurable goals for improvement. It’s an opportunity to celebrate artistry, fine-tune technical skills, and gain recognition within a vibrant, supportive professional community.

For my dancers, it means that seasoned judges recognize their inherent artistry. Additionally, if there are technical deficiencies in the image (such as a stray thread on the floor), I can make refinements before applying it to other competitions.

For me, the feedback I received each year has been invaluable, pushing me to new heights in both my artistic vision and technical execution.
